Particular average
A partial loss borne by one interest alone.
Definition
A partial loss of the subject-matter caused by an insured peril, which is not a general average loss. The word "average" here means loss, not arithmetic mean: particular average falls on the owner of the property damaged, while general average is shared between all the interests in the venture.
Why it decides money
Nearly every cargo claim is a particular average claim. The old shorthand FPA — free of particular average — describes cover that excludes exactly these, and is close in scope to modern Clauses (C).

- A shared bill when something is sacrificed to save the whole venture.

- Not destroyed, but not worth saving.
