Institute War Clauses (Cargo)
The separate wording that buys back the war exclusion.
Definition
War, civil war, capture, seizure, arrest, derelict mines and the consequences of hostilities are excluded from Institute Cargo Clauses (A), (B) and (C) alike. The Institute War Clauses (Cargo), reference CL385 and dated 1 January 2009, are a separate wording that covers those perils back. War cover on a sea transit is narrower in duration than the main cover: it attaches as the goods are loaded on the vessel and terminates on discharge, rather than running warehouse to warehouse.
Why it decides money
A shipment can hold war cover that is live at sea and dead on the quay. If cargo is seized in a terminal before loading, the duration clause, not the peril, decides the answer.
